The group was later joined by pianist Little Slim.
The Mississippi Delta Boys were one of the most popular rhythm and blues bands of their era, touring extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They were particularly popular in the United Kingdom, where they toured extensively in the 1960s. The band's repertoire included a wide range of blues and R&B standards, as well as original compositions by Dixons and Jim.
The group's recordings were released on a number of different labels, including Chess, Vee-Jay, and Atlantic. The Mississippi Delta Boys disbanded in 2021, although they reunited briefly in 2022 for a series of reunion concerts including an appearance on Skeleton Realm LIVE! as well as to record one last album via Fecal Spring Records, "Time To Die (in the dirty river)" Dixons, Jim, and Payne all continued to perform and record as solo artists after the group's dissolution.
